Baik The Future Of Scotland

Will "Baik" Baikie, is a Music Producer from Scotland, U.K. In the few years of his career, Baik has production credits on two Top 10 Charting albums including a Number 1 Album in Romania. Baik has also produced for the likes of Lil Gotit, Joey Trap, Reggie Mills, and more.

Q: How did you get your producer name?

A: My producer name comes from my surname "Baikie". Originally I went by my full name but opted for Baik after about six months of making music.

Q: What was your first record placement?

A: I think it was something small back in like 2019, less than 1000 streams kind of thing.

Q: What is the biggest lesson you learned while working in the music industry?

A: Network, Network, Network. I know it's cliché but it's really who you know and not what you know. That new producer you turned down, given time, might be in a position to put you on so treat everyone equally and take every opportunity you get. Also, being polite but assertive. We all know how it feels to have your beat stolen or not get paid/credited. Make your conditions clear and if they aren't met then take appropriate action.

Q: Where are you from, and how did it mold you into the person you are today ?

A: I'm from a small village in the North East of Scotland with a population of about 500 people. This has made it challenging to work in the US industry but has forced me to adapt and find new ways of connecting with people of the internet.

Q: Who is your favorite artist to work with?

A: Currently, my favourite artist to work with on a consistent basis is Joey Trap. Joey and I first connected through Luca Beats for the track "Night/Levels" back in 2021 and since then have released tracks such as "Baik" and "Pipe" together. This has been crazy for me as he was an artist I listened to when I first started making beats back in 2017. That being said, I'd love to work with the likes of Lil Baby, Youngboy, Gunna and Young Thug.

Q: What DAW do you use, and what is your favorite plug-in?

A: FL gang for life, no question about it. My favourite plugin as of right now has to be ElectraX as I make most of my loops with that. As for effect plugins, it's got to be Valhalla Vintage Reverb or Tremolator.

Q: What is your favorite record placement and why?

A: It has to be my song with Lil Gotit, "Walkdown". Although currently unreleased, It was my first placement that showed me that I really had the potential to make something for myself in the music industry.

Q: What are somethings producers don't know that they should know?

A: That there's no real secret to getting placements. The harder you work the more frequent they become but in my experience, they come pretty randomly. Some months will be terrible and others will be insane. Just focus on making your craft the best it can be. That being said, don't do what I did and only make drums or loops. Try and be as versatile as possible, even learn how to mix vocals. At the end of the day, you want to make yourself as valuable as possible.

Q: What makes you a hot producer?

A: I believe I have some of the craziest production abilities in my country and coupled with my ability to communicate with other creatives online this has allowed me to make plays on a global scale.
